Pro Voice Over in all genres
RICH IN EXPERIENCE, EXPERTISE & EXCELLENCE.
One of the most established & experienced #British #voiceactor in the U.K.

Voice age is a real thing. Proof in the... ahem... Voice age is a real thing.
Proof in the... ahem... pudding
in this Krispy Kreme radio advert.

How old do you sound?
vs
How old do you feel?! 😂
A list of business skills… Strong focus. Organis A list of business skills…

Strong focus.
Organisation.
Herding kittens.
Balancing egos.
Planning ahead.
Reading the room.
Spotting problems.
Time management.
Still herding kittens.
Building trust quickly.
Solving the problems!
Communicating clearly.
Spinning all of the plates.
Sticking to tight deadlines.
Prioritising under pressure.
Always herding those kittens.
Working with big personalities.
Handling last‑minute changes.
Turning conflict into collaboration.
Budgeting when every penny matters.
Keeping momentum when plans fall apart.
Will someone please take these ruddy kittens?
Negotiating with those who don’t want to negotiate.
Knowing when to push, when to hold, and when to improvise.

All pretty handy for voice acting.
All learnt when I managed a punk band.
It’s surprising how transferable some skills are.

What have you brought into your current role from a previous career?
We've all been there. You go on holiday for a nice We've all been there.
You go on holiday for a nice relaxing
time recording radio ads for Krispy Kreme
and you get interrupted by sunbathing and margaritas.

Thanks so much to @rameshmahtanivo
for the loan of his studio in Tenerife!
Turning up for some pro headshots with dyed purple Turning up for some pro headshots
with dyed purple and green hair,
a 1978 punk pyramid bracelet,
and fishnet glove things…

That’s me, that’s my style.
And it all works together.
Because it’s honest.

Just like when we speak about how
all parts of a production must work together.
The music, the visuals, the script, the voice acting.

But sometimes, just sometimes, it’s worth trying something
that makes you think “it shouldn’t work but it does”.

A tiny laugh in a sad moment.
Smiling through a bit of bad news.
A whisper in an otherwise high energy script.

These kinds of choice show us the
contradictions that are all part of human life.
So the unexpected twist in a vocal take works…

…if it’s honest.

Putting on a blue wig for shock value for your next
set of pro headshots when you’ve never ever
so much as looked at a pot of hair dye?

Not so much.
Watch us perform with so much energy and confidenc Watch us perform with so much energy and
confidence that we metaphorically destroy the Sure SM58.

Doesn’t quite have the same impact as
Watch us wreck the mic x3

But PJ and Duncan were onto something:
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of playful bravado.
There’s nothing wrong with a belief in your own ability.

That’s what I can bring to the session.
No quivering under the pressure of 4 directors,
2 agents, 3 producers, and an incredibly smelly pop shield.

You can sit back, relax and
watch me wreck the mic.
Psyche.
Last week someone sent me a link to a Facebook gro Last week someone sent me a link to a Facebook group:
80s New Wave/Punk & Post Punk Nostalgia Page.

The post I was being directed to reveals something
you may not know from before I was a voice actor.

I was the manager of a punk band called Discharge.

The post reads:
"...it was a woman named Tanya Rich
who changed the trajectory of everything,
because she brought their first proper gig to
the attention of local record shop owner Mike Stone,
(ran Clay Records), and negotiated the deal that got them signed.

The band were so genuinely grateful
that they secretly dedicated their debut EP
Realities of War to her in the inside groove of the vinyl.

A hidden message pressed into the record itself
that most fans never even knew existed,
and there is something so deeply
human and touching about that.

Four furious young punks etching a quiet thank-you
into the physical grooves of their first record for
the woman who believed in them first, before
anyone else did, before the world caught up."

---------------

If you believe in something, if you have a genuine passion for it,
keep going. Like me with voice acting (40+ years!) and
Discharge too, who are still going strong!

Except that I was delighted to add a few voices to Game of Thrones: Kings Road.

With thanks to my brilliant agent @emiloufox of @voicefox_voiceover_agency, @marcgrauestudios and @audiou4ia for the fantastic direction. It was a blast, and I cannot wait to play!

Most businesses think they’re hiring a voice actor Most businesses think they’re hiring a voice actor.
What they’re actually hiring is a translator.

Someone who takes your internal lingo and your brand
and turns it into something an audience can actually understand.

Two rhyming couplets already. Nice.

Half the time, VOs are fixing things
that hirers didn’t even realise needed fixing.

Communication things.

And sometimes the biggest communication problem isn’t what you’re saying,
it’s how it’s being heard. And that’s where a pro earns their keep.

You don’t need to worry really.
Just keep writing whatever you like.
And let voice actors do the translating.
If you’re rewriting the script during the live ses If you’re rewriting the script during the live session,
hire a VO who can adapt without spinning out.

Rewrites happen.
They always have.

Sometimes the line just doesn’t land.
So the pen comes out, scribbling frantically.
It’s all part of trying to get to the best‑sounding read.

And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

But when the script is pulling you this way and that,
you need someone who can stay calm and pivot,
delivering a performance with not a wobble.

That’s where experience pays for itself.

Because if you’re rewriting on the spot (and you’re allowed!)
you want a voice actor who can pirouette gracefully and
not one whose comfort zone has just been obliterated.
If you want a natural read… Stop writing sentences If you want a natural read…
Stop writing sentences nobody has ever said out loud.

Voice actors can do a lot.
Lift flat copy, smooth clunky phrasing,
make corporate nonsense sound like it has a heart.

They can even magically turn a legal paragraph, three nested clauses,
and a rogue semicolon into casual sounding conversation.

But if the goal is ‘to sound like you’re chatting to your mate’,
the script could… perhaps… be a little bit more human to begin with, please?

Again, if you want a natural read,
maybe skip the 197 words long sentence
that contains eight parenthetical clarifications, yeah?

Fellow VOs: What’s the worst sentence you’ve ever had to record?

We’re living in the era of slop. It’s a horrible w We’re living in the era of slop.
It’s a horrible word, describing a horrible thing.

Every day, another impossible video clip goes viral.
A cruise ship wedged in a canal, a lion doing CPR on a zookeeper.
None of it happened. But without a level of analysis, it sort of maybe looks like it did.

Kind of.

But the more this floods our feeds, the more
we’ll start to doubt the evidence of our own eyes.
And that has huge implications for anyone making content.

Because if audiences can’t trust what they’re seeing
they will need something else to anchor to.

That “something else” is sound.
Humans instinctively use vocal cues
to judge credibility, emotion, and intent.
Long before we had screens, we had voices.
And our brains still treat them as a primary source of truth.

What can’t be replaced is the tiny,
subconscious signals that will tell us:
This is a real person. You can believe them.

And in a world where video is becoming harder to trust
those signals will matter to us more than ever.

A human voice is still one of the most powerful trust‑building tools you have.
And right now, trust is the thing everyone’s fighting for.

What’s the most ridiculous AI video you saw
that people in the comments had believed?
Here we go. The promo train has arrived! This yea Here we go. The promo train has arrived!
